I don't even know what to say.

do none of you see anything wrong with this? do you realise how much of a slap in the face this is to all women? do you not realise how harmful it is to ignore, accept, and fucking normalise misogyny?

this sort of attitude is what makes feminism so important. and this sort of attitude from other women just turns my stomach. I can't even wrap my brain around the amount of self-loathing in that post; and worse, were someone to call any of the commenters out on it, none of them would ever admit it. and that's how hollywood gets away with it, and how they'll continue to get away with it: because women won't admit that there's a problem, and they're not willing to stand up for their own gender.

WE HAVE DOUCHEBAG ALERT

I'm sure this is going to piss a lot of people off, but I really don't care.

this article just makes me furious. I'm going to choose a bunch of excerpts that particularly got my goat:

reading things I used to write makes me feel like I lived for ages with someone else inside my mind. I can't reconcile the me-now with the me-who-could-write. all those months feel like a goddamn dream.

I'm glad we, as a society, have improved our view of women to the point that we no longer use them as sexual objects to move magazine covers.

c/o [info]mabnyx: very short stories. my favourite is "I'm your future, child. don't cry."

and c/o [info]faoiltiamatani: on bashing zoos and steve irwin. really good food for thought.

pissed-off feminist, and very proud of it.

a culture saturated in sexism

posts like this make me so angry because I know that for every comment where someone stands up and says, "yes, the writer is right; mass media is completely fucked up and sexist," five other people (most of whom have not read the entire article, or who miss the point completely) will pull the "it's just film" card or take another dig at feminism.

and by extension, this is the sort of post that makes me angry because I know I'll read comments about "not being a feminist, but . . ." or "this is why I'm not a feminist, because they're crazy" or feminism being unnecessary. (yes, I've actually heard people say that last one.) and the majority of these comments are from women.

to quote someone in the comments: "The original women's movement must be so disappointed in us." a-goddamn-men.

edit| american beauty?

yeah, no sexism here! no need for feminism!

up until four-thirty with [info]boosette, whom I already miss, watching it's a wonderful life and sullivan's travels, drinking very very mildly, and playing katamari; then off to the airport at nine-thirty. now my bones are aching in rebellion, but I don't mind -- I haven't had that much fun in a while.

today's spot-on horoscope:

Hidden feelings can create problems now, so it's best not to keep secrets. Although you may be trying to maintain balance, avoiding difficult issues is not your best course of action. Everything seems more intense these days, so take a slow and steady approach, knowing that healing can occur if you don't force any issues at this time.
